So was in Ottawa hanging out with some buddies on the weekend to get out of Kingston and decided to do some shooting with another friends 99 Civic hatch like mine, and our other friends heavily modded brand new 2011 STi. This thing is an absolute beast, he is currently running 20 lbs but once his new Cosworth motor arrives it'll be a whole new ball game. More coverage of this thing to come for sure.

I am meeting him along with a whole crew of buddies from Ottawa on Saturday for another solid lapping day assuming the weather holds out. Keep an eye out for those shots soon!

Played around with some more strobe work. Absolutely loving my new PocketWizard Flex TT5 units, they honestly make life esier.

Here are 8 of my faveorite's from the set, the rest can be found here:

All of these were shot with a mixture of my 5Dc w/ either 20-35 f2.8L, 50mm 1.4, or 70-200 f4. I don't think I even used the 28-70 at all on this set.

Lot's more to come very soon, slowly starting to book jobs for June as well!

Good set.

once his new Cosworth motor arrives it'll be a whole new ball game.

He's gonna' need better tires, too! ;)

They are all nice but I have to agree some of them are so over sharpened that you have jagged edges on them. Nice lighting though and I love number 4!

Can't tell what tires are on the STi, but the wheels are the Enkei RP-F1.

I agree #1 looks over-sharpened, but #4 is definitely my favorite! Interesting lighting in #2 as well.

Interested in seeing some build shots too!!

Funny you mention that, just met up with him at the track yesterday......Toyo R888's equipped.

I'll be honest I'm not sure what happened with that one as it did not look that overly sharpened at first but I agree. Usually I am not a fan of drastic sharpening to be honest.

Pretty simple actually. Sat the car in the middle of a parking lot, making sure it was a great distance from any walls or reflective surfaces. One Vivitar 285 Camera left 1/2 power, one 430 EXII camera right 1/2 power about 20 degrees off access. The Vivitar was shot through a massive 42" Bowens shoot through/reflector, the 430 through a 36" version of the same umbrella.

Hope that helps. Both flashes wirelessly triggered by my Pocketwizard Flex TT5 units, running the MiniTT1 Flex unit on my 5D for the sending unit. These things are a dream!

Yeh I will try to get on some build coverage when he gets the Cosworth block in. The custom cams they are making for him were delayed so it's still a couple weeks away....but damn will it be worth the wait :-)

This thing was a BEAST at the track by the way, he took me lapping for a little bit and god damn the amount of Grip between the cars suspension and the fresh R888s he was running......just amazing.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I have tons more coming this week with some new cars!.....remember the champagne Soarer? ;-)a

Honestly if your on a budget you can still light for cheap! The only reason why I am using pretty decent gear now (Other than the Vivitar, AMAZING flashes for the price now you can get them at) is because I started originally using some extremely ghetto triggers and flashes and learned a lot about lighting with those. Now that I know it's a great asset of my work I decided to spoil myself with the PocketWizards, and honestly they have been worth every penny.

There's a ton of options out there for a great set-up on a budget, just a matter of reading consumer reviews. The smaller the brand name, the lower the quality control will be, hence more potential problems so be ready to experience some with things like ebay triggers ranging from like 10$ and up haha. The Flex TT5 units are 259.99 each but if you are frequently using them, you know why you spent the money. From features like 1/8000 sync speeds, wireless ETTL capabilities, insane range....the list goes on.
