I am hung up on which of the 2 to get. I really like the idea of having the ability to go from sling to backpack and the upper compartment having a little more room with the Kata. The Lowepro looks to be built a little better and I have only seen the Lowepro in person.

My current Gear:
Canon 7D w/grip
70-200 F4L IS
17-40 F4L
28-135mm
50mm 1.8

I figure to by a 430EX II but do not think I will be adding anything major soon.

I tend to always be on the go and having a small bag, which I have recently outgrown no longer works. Most of fmy pictures are candids of daily life. I want the flexibility to pull my gear quick and have my essentials when I need it at the same time not be lugging a big old bag around.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

You could use the Kata 3N1-20 instead of the 30. The 20 is a few inches narrower and an inch or two short, but it feel smaller than that when in use. When I was using my 20 I typically carried a 1DIII, 70-200, 24-70, 17-35, 85 1.8, and 550ex and had room for the general accessories, memory, batteries, etc. If you picked up the 30, you'd have plenty of room to spare with the gear you listed.

I'm looking at a similar setup and similar bags. I think the slingshot can get a bit heavy on that one shoulder, that is why I do like the Kata. To me, it seemed that the kata 3n1 20 was small to take my 7D mounted with 17-55 and the 70-200F4, but from what I read here that should work ?

Now my question is, how easy is it to change lenses (from the side pockets) while wearing it ?? I am hoping to change lenses without putting down the bag...

Not easy at all.
I have the slingshot 102, and I can't replace the lens without putting it down in order to take out the other lens, since in order to take out a lens from one of the internal pockets, you have to open it almost completely.
Doing so, and without securing the other lenses, you can drop a lens from another pocket by mistake.

I use the 3n1-33 which is pretty huge.

You can change lens while wearing it. As long as you configured it right. I can do the switch between my 70-200 2.8 IS and my 17-55 without any issues. It's not that fast though and you do worry about dropping stuff. Just make sure you do 1 thing at a time and keep the lens either on camera or in the bag and the body on your neck with it's strap.

not quite impressed with the build quality of kata 3n1 series...
and the 30's can hold a lot of gear but due to their change strap, pack, sling design, the straps are cheaply padded and narrow... if you load your bag, you will feel it...

lowepro has been making fine bags, ample padding and no cut corners...

review of a kata in my sig...
