Hi guys,

I need to shoot video of my kid at school and I was thinking about getting a monopod for my 7D.

Any recommendations? I like Induro, so maybe one of their monopods?

None of them, a monopod does not help reduce shakiness. Great tool for action photography with a long lens, not so good for video. Something with three legs is a much better option.

For video the best mono-pod is the one you don't use, seriously for video you need a good stable tripod with a fluid head.

Sometimes I find a monopod actually gets in the way of mobility and fluid movement.

I understand a monopod might not be the best solution. But I wanted to find a monopod for the times, when you're are likely to be in a crowded place.
I already have a tripod, an old soon to be replaced tripod.

take the money you would spend on the monopod, and get yourself an even more better tripod.

Save the money and buy a copy of proDAD Marcelli, it works much better than a monopod ever could . ;-)a

how much experience do you have with software stabilizers? I'd be interested in finding a cross-comparison across Mercalli versus Motion/SmoothCam versus Lock n' Load versus BoIris versus magic bullet's Steady etc.

that's pretty cool, never seen a mono with those mini legs.. for me that is a heavy price though. i wonder if there are any knock offs with a similar design as the 561bhdv-1....

Very little, we purchased Mercalli V2 after trying at the NAB show and have been quite pleased with how well it works and it's simplicity.

By far the best monopod for video is one with three legs......

If you've got your heart set on a monopod - I use a Manfrotto 681B (external link) when shooting soccer with a 70-200/2.8 IS. It's an inexpensive, sturdy monopod with great height.
