If I combine the lenses and get better image quality out of one lens it saves me the trouble of having to change lenses to go wide angle instead of the 28-135. Just trying to see if the image quality of the 18-135 will be sufficient for me.

Thank you watduzhkstand4 for helping!

You're welcome!

Buy a 15-85. It's a much better lens than any of those 3 listed.

Read the OP, not in the budget, not needing any other suggestions for glass just trying to decide between the options I listed. After I get the new body and decide abou the lenses is when I will start to upgrade my glass.

I would get the 60D kit with 18-135 and sell the 18-135 so you will have more cash.

are they really selling second hand? and selling for more then the price difference between the body only vs body w/ 18-135?

One of OP's suggestion was to get the 60D kit and sell the 18-55 and the 28-135. So my suggestion was if he ends up getting the 60D kit with the 18-135, then sell the 18-135 because he can probably get more money from that than selling the two lenses that he currently has.

Another thing for the OP is that I'm not sure what you shoot but seeing that you have two engagement shoots and a wedding shoot, you might want to consider getting a faster telezoom, something like a 70-200 2.8 IS. I know that you're on a budget and I know this has nothing to do with the topic that we're talking about but if you are planning to sell your lenses for an upgrade, that's an option. This is just my $0.02.

Cheers!

This is something that I will be doing eventually, getting the 70-200 2.8 but for right now the 60D higher ISO performance will allow me to use my tammy 70-300 for the time being. I just need to know whether I should spend the extra $270 bucks to get the kit lens or just deal with what I have now. I do kinda like the idea of getting the 18-135 and then decide if I want to sell it or my other two. That seems like the best thing to end up doing...no?

Edit: sorry i put 170 instead of 270

That's up to you and whether or not if you want to go through the hassle of selling it. Personally, I would just get the body. Selling is too annoying with the fees and everything. I just bought the 60D two weeks ago and it outperforms my 500D by miles in ISO performance. I can say that ISO 3200 JPG straight out of the camera is acceptable. Here is a look at it.

ISO 3200
f/2.8
1/80
@ 59mm

^And that is the biggest thing for me, the ISO and the AF of the 60D...right now on my xs at 800 JPEG I can't use the picture at all without heavy noise reduction

Thank you for the shot!

Drew

My mistake. I would still save up for another month an buy a much nicer lens than settling now. You'll save money and headache in the long run.

No problem! I say just get the body only and shoot away with the high iso :)

Are you planning on selling your ST-E2 anytime soon? I might have someone that wants it. I see that you have the 7D so I thought maybe you don't use the ST-E2? :D

With $900 that you'll spend for a 60D you can buy some very good glass such as the 24-105 L or the 17-55 IS f/2.8 then save and buy a better body in the future if the XS is not doing it for you.

I think OP needs a body more than a lens for the ISO performance. Besides, a f/2.8 isn't fast enough imo. I shoot at clubs and it's pretty much worthless and how I wish I have the $ to get myself some fast primes.

Looks like that is what I am going to do, still not sure but I got a couple days to think before pulling the trigger weather I want to combine the two lenses or not! Thanks for hanging in there and helping me with my questions!

As stated right now I am not wanting to upgrade my glass, I am happy with what I have I was just trying to decide whether or not the 18-135 would be a good idea to replace my 18-55 and 28-135. The glass will be upgraded in the future but right now I need to focus on upgrading the body

If ISO is your main concern, why not upgrade to a T2i even cheaper? The noise will be almost identical. Then use the saved money to get some really good glass instead of "Eh" glass.

Soon? Depends on when I can afford some pocket wizards. The ST-E2 see A LOT of use because the built in master is clunky and slow to operate.
