Hey guys,
I am planning on traveling to Thailand/Hong Kong this summer and since i am interested in buying the 70-200 f4 non-is I was wondering if anybody bought from these 2 places..Whats the price tag on the lens?

Just trying to figure if its worthwhile, or just buy one locally/Net

Due to the earthquake and subsequent events in Japan, Hong Kong retailers are ripping everybody off, and the prices are same as stateside and more expensive in some cases. Hopefully the prices will go back down soon because Canon issued a statement saying everything will be back to normal in June-ish.

Don't buy from Thailand. Prices in Thailand are generally 30% more than they are in HK. If you're in HK you can buy lenses cheaper than you can online. Most of us don't have access to HK's plethora of camera stores and there is a lens shortage at present and a camera shortage. I hope that things go back to normal soon, but once prices go up, it is hard for them to go down....

Most probably I will by staying at The Kimberley Hotel.
Are there any quality shops closed by that sell canon lenses?
Also, how much does this lens costs in HK??

Thanks again.

Don't know what prices in HK are like right now but I purchased my EF 100mm Macro and Kenko TC from Tin Cheung Camera back in October and saved a couple hundred dollars versus buying online.

There are these two stores in Mong Kok called Man Shing and Wing Shing. Google map it and you'll find it. They're sibling stores and their equipment is legit. Another store I went to was also in Mong Kok called DCFever. You can find them at DCFever.com/shop

I'm starting to get a bit tired of people thinking everything in Hong Kong is fake or pirated.

There is no such thing as a pirated lens. Period.

As Sirrith has pointed out already, atm it's not wise to buy any lenses or camera gear in HK, because the prices have sky rocketed since the tsunami in Japan.

You're better off buying the lens back home (used)

I just asked my friend. She bought a Nikon 17-55 for about $100 USD cheaper than B&H price. So maybe prices aren't as affected. If you think about it, aren't lenses made in Japan. If so, it's a much shorter distance to travel from Japan to HK than to State side. Hong Kong is known for cheaper and legit stuff [only if you know where to go] so I would re-think if the prices are actually higher there.

I had been based in HK for the past 5 years and will atest to the fact the prices had been the cheapest in Asia (until the earthquake rip-offs price increase recently)

If you can do with a bit of square box appearing on screen, due to Chinese characters not displaying properly on screen, try this link.

http://www.price.com.hk/category.php?c=100043 (external link)

I think the pull down menus of brands, price range, fix/zoom etc isn't that hard to fig out.

US$1=HK7.78 to 7.8 (pegged)

Place to go for the products in town - Mong Kok shopping area. There is a building called Sim City, 47-51 Shantung Street. That is 5 floors worth of camera shops for new & pre-owned.

So far, I had positive experiences there.

Have fun.

Hoped this helps.
