Eagle Lake Bridge

IMAGE: http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/EagleLakeBridge_62745.jpg

Triad Day Bridge

This one is near Wildwood Stables and I heard horses as soon as I got out of the car. Seconds later a carriage came up the road which was 5 feet away but just over my head so I had no idea it was there. I scooted up the steep embankment and got a couple hurried, terrible shots of the Clydesdales. A couple minutes later a woman in a little 2-person carriage went by on the road, the first carriage went over the bridge after a little loop I guess, then a couple went by on horses, then a group of folks went by, then the woman in the carriage went back over the bridge, and finally the group road over the bridge.

All in about a 3-minute span.

I kept mis-focusing, blowing out the sky, scrambling up and down the embankment and watching out for traffic which was *flying* by on the road below me. Madness I tell ya.

Anyway, I got a shot. :-)

And I can't for the life of me figure out which bridge this is. Hopefully I'll figure it out some day. I really wish the camera captured GPS data in with the EXIF...

All beautiful shots! I really like Stanley Brook Bridge. The structure is interesting and the colors terrific! If I were you, Id take the opportunity and get back up there this weekend..the color MUST be amazing by now with the cold weather....unless, the rain is slowing it down up there, too. I am SO envious! Thanks for sharing, I love seeing these!

Oh, Eagle Lake Bridge....is Acadia near the Eagle Lake I know that is very close to the Canadian border?? If so, Ive been there when I was young. Friends had a camp there (was like 7 or 9 hour drive from Spfld. area). From what I remember, it was beautiful and not full of traffic...but of course, this was 25 years ago!

Nice shots, Scott. They evoke my imagination to think what it must have been like to live in one of the "cottages" in the old days.

Beautiful shots on the bridges. I'm just amazed at the workmanship that went into building these. They remind me a little of the Stone bridges on the Merritt Parkway (Rte 15 ) here in Connecticut on the way to New York

Thanks for the comments. I love these bridges - they really are amazing, and I love the "old world" look and feel to them. They did an great job of blending them into the environment and rather naturally making them fit the roads. They even got the stone from small quarries as close to the bridge as possible - and by close I mean feet, not miles. So the bridge stones match the stones that are naturally along the road by the bridge. Acadia - an island 20 miles in diameter - has at least 10 distinct types and colors of granite so it was important to match the local stones.

One thing I found funny was that over the years the workers got to be very good at cutting the stone. They got so skilled that they were asked to cut the stones rougher and make mistakes, all in order to keep the bridges looking rustic.

Stanley Brook and Duck Brook Bridges are easily my favorites. (Duck Brook's in another thread...)

I believe your "Mystery" bridge is not one of the official Carriage Road Brindges but the bridge near the Cadillac Mountain entrace to the park and Route 233. I was working on finalizing a little catalog of the bridges I'm making from this summer's visit when I came across your photos in a Google search. It threw me for a loop (no pun intended) because it did not match any of my photos of the 17 bridges. I don't have a match as I did not photograph that bridge, but I'm pretty confident that is the one.

Well the fact that it's not an official Carriage Road bridge would explain why I could not find any info on it. I even bought Thayer's "Acadia's Carriage Roads" to look for it.

However, from my recollection of that day and the timestamps on my photos, I left the Loop Road and drove up Otter Cliff Rd, then took a left onto Rt 3 and followed that until the intersection of Park Loop Rd. I put this bridge somewhere along Otter Cliff Road before it intersects with Route 3, though it could have been on Rt 3 before it intersects with the Loop Road again. This section of both roads is not officially in the park.

Checking Google Earth, I find only 1 bridge in that area - near Fabbri, at 44.315785° N, 68.196467° W. I lent my Acadia books out, so I can't check, but is this an official Carriage Road Bridge? It does not carry the Carriage Road, but rather the Park Loop Road. Either way, I think I shot this bridge and posted it here: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=103938

After checking Google Earth, I am leaning towards your suggestion of which bridge it is. I must have circled back to the Cadillac Mt Entrance, and then proceeded back to the loop road.

Thanks for solving the mystery!
