I Want To Get The Beginner Bee Package

But before I do, I'm wondering if there are any ways I could save money. Could I just get the light, and get the stands and bags, and everything else elsewhere? Should I get something else entirely? Should I go for it? Do I even need bags!? I also really want portable power! Could I possibly squeeze in The Alienbee, The Stand, an umbrella, and portable power for $400?

Thanks! Best wishes!

you could get everything else separate and possible save money. Just go to bh and star adding things to a cart and see what it will come out to. I was going to go with the Beginner Bee B800 Package as well but i am going to hold off and just get a new tripod and lens. Plus summer is here so i will just utilize the natural light.

Did you look at the AB site to see?

A quick check on alienbees.com shows that the VB mini alone is $240, so I'd say no.

probably not since portable power (Vagabond Mini) is $240 and B800 is $270 so you are already over budget by $110. Then you have to add light stand and wireless trigger.

You can get the beginner bee and that is only $358 then save for portable power later.

I did, but I was wondering if there are cheaper alternatives. I figure power is power. :3

I guess I'll get the beginner bee. :3

If you are just dead set on mono-lights go for it, but you could get a LOT of gear if you went the strobe route.

Personally, I sold all my bees, going with canon flashes and umbrellas. Much easier/lighter to go on location. Hauling batteries, heavy duty light stands etc sucked period. Just my 2 cents.

Canon flash units are way overpriced--poverty wizzards and Yongnuo or Vivitar 285 HV's give way more for the money

I did the opposite. Easy doesn't always mean best. I don't mind dragging out my WL X3200 / X1600, beauty dish and Vagabond mini if it means a great shot. There's a number of shots I could never had done with with even 5-6 speedlites.

They are great for portability, but that comes at the expense of power. It's certainly a good (and cheaper) way to get started.
