The other day I showed someone a photograph of the Milky Way and he asked me where do you need to go to see it. I realised he has never seen the stars in all its glory. Hence I tried to take a shot of what he grew up with. The city version of the heavens. My garden has some trees, and this is Crux seen from Johannesburg as close as possible to what you can see with the naked eye. 10x light frames, 10 dark and so on - stacked. ISO400, F5.6, 25 seconds each. I tried to cut things out to get fewer stars. Quite a challenge.

Nothing special, just a view that shows some people need to travel to the country side.

I've had friends from Los Angeles come up to my place in the country and they just stand and stare at the night sky, mouth agape. I had one guy tell me, 'looks like we won't be imaging tonight... look at that huge cloud'. When I told him it was the Milky Way, he almost lost control.

I remember going out stargazing with a few friends several years ago and having a really hard time convincing one of them he was looking at the Milky Way and not a cloud. He still probably thinks he saw a cloud ... that happened to move with the rest of the stars. We can usually see more stars where I live than in David's image, but we can't see the 'Way until you get outside of town.

Some clicking occurred, a few lenses were involved, that's about all I know ...
