I personally don't have experience with these lenses but you can check out some sample pictures in the archive.

Frankly, I think that I would worry more about which focal length suits you best. They're both fantastic.

But I agree with the statement about picking a focal length.

I had both recently and found them to be very similar in IQ/sharpness. If I pixel peep, I feel the 24LII can handle CA a bit better, but the difference is hard to notice. I love both but sold the 35L because the 24LII suited my video needs more. Plus the 24LII is a newer lens with better weather sealing abilities. Like the others have said, choose the best FL that suits you or the budget that suits you, the 24LII is a few hundred more than the 35L.

24II is a bit sharper(I've used both) but its almost negligible. More noticeable is less purple fringing and better contrast wide open.

I don't think the 24 would be too wide. the only downside to the 24-105 is the weight, it's heavy.

I'm in the same boat, one of these two lenses will probably be my next purchase.

Right now I'm leaning towards the 24.

Both are great, without one being noticeably better than the other... Ide see which length you like better.

Are you finding that the 35 is not wide enough for your shooting? If not, you don't need the 24. Regardless, you obviously have some interest in the 24, so why not rent it for a few days?

Yes, I own and use both, but I use them for different purposes. I would pretty much never choose the 24 to shoot people, as I find it too wide for that purpose (on full frame).

+1

any differences in sharpness and contrast are nominal. the 24 may slightly edge out the 35 in these categories, but there is no clear winner when judging pictures side-by-side. their focal lengths are very different, however... enough to warrant keeping both (as i'm having a helluva time figuring out which one i should get rid of for purely economic reasons). one thing i will add is that the magic of the 35 gets a bit lost on crop cameras. if i had a crop camera, it'd be 24l ii all the way. on crop sensors, the 35 crops slightly telephoto and the pictures feel a bit boring and you question it's flexibility. on full-frame, the 35 is very close to the perfect all-around lens. if you shoot full-frame and your shooting skews more towards portraits, i'd suggest the 35 as you feel close enough that you're not missing those spontaneous, intimate moments. if your shooting skews more landscape, i'd say go for the 24. again, i think IQ is pretty much a non-issue when comparing these lenses.

Sharpness on these two is probably dependent on how exact the copy you got is. They are both tack sharp.
