I am going to Maui next week and after packing and unpacking my gear I have only one question. Do I really need my flash?
A flash is like an American Express card.

Once you learn to use a flash correctly, you would never consider not having it with you. My advice would be to work with your flash outdoors every day until you get comfortable setting it to get the results that you expect. Once you are at that point, you will choose to use it a lot more.

That's because the rest of us do not know the photographic "style" of the person asking the question. Do you make photographs using your flash on a regular basis? If so, I would guess that you would benefit by having it on any trip, not only a trip to Maui. If you seldom use your flash, you may not miss it if you leave it at home. Will want to use my 100L for flowers and my 35 and 24-105 of my girl friend against the scenery. Nikon D850 and a bunch of stuff, I have learned a lot here when I was shooting Canon, staying to keep learning..."Every time I set up I learn something new".

My thoughts were that being on vacation would give me time to learn how to use flash if I didn't already know Would you like to buy a vowel?

I was going from experience. Before I got comfortable with flash, I took it on many trips and never used it. In the heat of the moment (fast setting sun, etc...), you tend to go with what you know.

This holds true for me as I don't use the flash often enough. I don't get to see the shots (where I used a flash) to see how they turned out until the computer. I find flash pics harder to judge on the tiny LCD. | Canon EOS Systems |

You would definitely need to have a flash with you then. | Canon EOS Systems |
