IR filter

Is the Hoya RM 72 infrared filter compatible with the G6? I would like to take infrared shots w/ my G6, both in color and b&w.Would this be possbile? I do have the conversion lens adapter, the 58 mm one, would this fit?

I bought the R72 filter and adapter for my G6 and tried to take some shots. Everything is red. Can someone please give me a very basic sandbox description on how this is to work? I seem to be confused about how to do the white balance etc. I have photoshop CS2 and all that and I would like to get B&W and color IR photo's with my G6.

you're doing it right, pics do come out red...you have to use photoshop to change it to b/w with channel mixer.

Colour with the IR72? Not that I know of! With the G1 for example there is a magenta cast in the raw photos. No 'colour'.

Well... magenta is a colour.

The R72 is a near-infrared filter, meaning it lets in a small amount of visible (colourful) light. The 093, on the other hand, is a true infrared filter and images come out grayscale whether you shoot RAW or JPG.

Well, yes. I should have read the history of the posts on IR, as I jumped to conclusions assuming the writer meant 'colour' not 'mono' colour as in 'red' or 'magenta'. Hi Iain... doesn't matter... whatever it takes to keep us in touch.

I wish I could claim sheer talent for the shot, but something like that has a lot of luck built in. I was stretched across Leela who had the window seat and I couldn't see the ground, but I did realize something interesting might appear close to landing, so I held the camera up with the LCD viewfinder angled properly and when Piha (unknown to me at that time) appeared, I knew it wasn't going to get any better. Snap.

And I was right. That was the best shot of the approach. I'm glad you like it.

I wouldn't get too excited about Pro1 infrared photos, but then I have the luxury of a G1 (which are probably cheap enough that you should consider one if you're interested in infrared). But I did take a couple of photos that I posted on DPreview:

The first photo was accidentally shot at ISO100, so I took the second photo at ISO50. I'll let you decide if it's worth it.

Piha Beach is a wonderful picture, and the whole infrared auckland gallery, including your lovely note even better.

The resized infrared picture shot with the Pro1 is interesting, despite of the noise.

There is still another question:
As the Hoya R72 is a near-infrared filter and I guess that the Pro1 has an internal IR blocking filter in front of the sensor, does it mean that the pictures use the small amount of visible light below the R72 and above the IR blocking filter?
