I am fairly new to 500px but really like it.

Those complaining that only nudes are popular, I have to somewhat disagree. The popular feature, based on the little time Ive been there, seems to be a 24 hour cycle. If your image is hot, 24 hrs later it drops in popularity to make room for more.

Also, the earlier in the day (sometime after midnight) is when the cycle restarts and for a brief moment everything will be out of balance. IE, more nudes on the popular pages but as the day moves on, the mediocre stuff gets voted away the good stuff pushes in front. Also, great images may get lost in the shuffle depending on when they are uploaded. Again, all based on my observations!

I find it to be a great site for inspiration and great for pushing yourself to take better images!

There are lots of options other than 500px, but I do find theirs to be the cleanest in terms of design and production value.
I opted for the Awesome account simply because, at $50 for a year, it seemed to be a very good deal. The main draw for me was to be able to do what you want, to organize my work into different folders. They have a nice little community built around the site and they have excellent customer service. Keep an eye out for coupon codes if you want to sign up for the Awesome account, they pop up every once in a while!

I wouldn't use 500px as a main site personally, but as a marketing tool I think it's well worth the money, it's really just replacing flikr.

Over xmas and NY the pro accounts were $25 a year. Can't beat that. Makes Flickr look like a complete ripoff considering they don't give a **** about the user and have really done nothing to improve the site.

I've been a Flickr user for a few years and cant agree more....BUT...flickr does have many more features then 500px. Specially when it comes to multiple sized images and posting on forums.

Flickr and 500px are two different things. Not really compairable to me. One is a station waggon the other is a small sports car. Yous they both are cars, the both have 4 wheels, they both have a motor. But the intention is completely different.

Flickr has become a dumping ground for photos, the work hoarse if you will. Where 500px is intended to showcase... the throughbread. Some people cant tell the difference. But they really are not head to head competitors.
