Oops, guess I forgot to click on quote, my comment was aimed at Hogloff.

Oh, that's ok. Many will comment that if you have an f/1.2 lens and you don't shoot wide open all the time, you're kind of wasting a lens' capability! I always understood things to shoot an aperture that renders focus where focus should be and build around that!

For most of the shots, I had the lens set to 2.8, ISO at 100 and used AV mode for a change. Early, the light was kind of changeable and saw shutter speeds going up to around 1/4000 at f/2.8. I don't think the camera can dial up 1/12000 on the shutter if I decided to open the lens up all the way! ;)

Hi Jeff:

Yes, some pp was done. Sun was getting up there and the air was very clear making for some blowouts. Standard processing was to lift some shadows, tone down a few hot spots, added some contrast to most and a shot of unsharp mask to finish them off.

Otherwise, my standard sports shot post-processing techniques.

I can take a bad pic yes. A lot of people rent that combo, shoot it wide open and have difficulty controlling DoF.

Not sure you could get a bad one with the camera settings used on Monday! It was pretty much 'cant-miss' all morning! And agree with the shallow DOF shooing wide open. Crazy thin at f/1.2 or whatever it goes to. Still like it a lot even at 2.8!

I am so envious!! Really nice pics, but I am just envious enough to want to point out #2 is not "Rev-War" era uniforms but Civil War era.

Did I say I was envious? Nice combo!!

Not every photograph needs to be artsy-fartsy. The camera can often used to capture a moment or scene, to tell a story or make a record for posterity. It's often referred to as photojournalism.

For the OP, did you shoot RAW and post process?

Also #2 is members of the Union Army from the Northern War of Aggression.

And your point is what? That you can copy and paste also.

Photo #1: Public domain; official U.S. Coast Guard photograph
Photo #2: As a work of the U.S. federal government, the image is in the public domain.

....the best camera is the one you have on you at the time.
