Ok so I am in a bind, I have had a Tokina 10-17mm for a little while, and while I enjoy the lens, I will be travelling extensively during the summer and am pondering my possibilities for purchasing an ultrawide zoom. I want to photograph architecture and landscapes, along with cars. While the fisheye is really nice looking for live music and skateboarding and such it's very specialized in my opinion. Am I looking at it right? There's a 10-22mm Canon and the camera store and I think I will get that or the 11-16 from tokina if I can find it. Which lens will I be happier with?

Sorry...you said you already have the Tokina 10-17. That is an ultrawide zoom. Why are you looking at another one?

The Tokina 10-17 is curvilinear, he wants one that is rectilinear.

Yeah I'm looking at a rectilinear. I'm just trying to gather some opinions from people that have owned both types of lenses as I haven't.

Gotcha, thanks for the correction.

Have you tried correcting the distortion in post? Is that satisfactory? Otherwise, I would look at another lens. If speed is an issue, I would go with the Tokina. Otherwise, the Canon has more range (both on the long and short). I have owned neither so I can't really give you tips one way or the other, but I was seriously considering the Tokina at one point.

The Canon 10-22 is a very good lens. It goes wider and focuses a little closer than the Tokina so it might be more versatile or let you get a more extreme perspective. The Tokina 11-16 has a bit faster aperture so it comes down to your priorities.

Try the Canon 10-22, it's a very good lens.
