can you post the image as an example? I usually just use the patch tool then smooth it out with the clone tool.

Clone works for me. It takes patience, practice, and a light touch.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Thread is relevant to my interests.

My wife has dark circles under her eyes unless she piles on the makeup. They've always been there - even in the photos of her as a toddler, she had bags under her eyes.

I'll see if I can get a sample photo up - I'm sure I have some in my Flickr.

Try the patch tool, you can use Edit-Fade to lessen the effect if needed.

Yeah, I use the patch tool as well - lots of practice for me as I have a fatal case of racoon eyes  ;) Guess what I do whenever I get pictures of myself ...

Actually this is easy in Photoshop. CTRL "J" then use the clone tool at 100% opacity and 10 to 20% hardness and using the "good" skin below the circles completely wipe out all traces of the circles. You may need to use the Band Aid tool also. Once the skin is perfect, lower the opacity to about 60% and see if you like it. If it is too much lower it to 50%. If not enough raise it to 70%. Flatten.

I make a 50% grey layer and set it to softlight and dodge at 5-8%. If there is significant discoloration I take the eyedropper, sample a flesh tone color that is pleasing, make a new layer and set it to color and use the paint brush set to around 50% opacity. Then I zoom out and adjust opacity to both layers as to keep detail and because I think we all tend to over edit when working at 100% or so.

I photograph mainly new moms and most of them have this problem. I don't 100% remove them, because it will look fake. I usually do it in 2 steps.

1. Create copy layer, bring it to about 30-50% opacity (depends on the case) and use patch tool. I go around entire under eye bag/dark circle.

2. I make new empty layer. Sample color of the good looking skin near problem area and choose very soft brush/Color blending mode/ very very low opacity, something like 10-20. I airbrush with it underneath the eyes and after play a bit with opacity of the layer.

It creates a very natural looking result. Hope that helps

Use the clone stamp tool in Lighten mode, select a light spot around the dark spot and fill in the dark spot.

Exactly. Set opacity to about 15%, soft brush (20% hardness) lighten mode. Several clicks are needed, move the cursor between clicks and the effect is not noticable. It will keep the texture but put the lighter skin color under the eyes.
