Here's some of what I took during a visit to The Philippines, May 7-14, 2011.
Say what you want; be honest, be mean, be constructive. Thoughts on composition, post processing, anything are very welcome. ;)

#1 has more visual interest to me. The palm tree on the left framing it is missing from #2. The buildings on the point give a better sense of place. #2 is nice too. I can't help but think how a circular polarizer filter would have brought out the rich blues of the tropical waters by reducing the sky reflection off it.

The rest look like vacation snaps, I'm sorry to say. There's no clear point of interest in them. The kids on the sand might have been, but they're tucked down in the right corner. It looks like an interesting place. I'll bet that you could find some compelling images if you spent some time contemplating the scene until the interesting stuff jumped out at you. The sand in #4 looks blown out. #6 appears tilted.

i chose #2 because the boats were more in order, the general exposer and color pop more, there isnt a cloud reflection on the water, and there were no buildings on the mountain being a distraction. A palm tree would have been nice but i can sacrifice that for a better overall image.

#2 better portrays that seclusion feeling you want when you vacation in an island paradise, where #1 shows more of the touristy side of things. both have their place, i just prefer the more secluded island feeling.

@Joe: Thanks for stopping by. Yeah all the time I was thinking of a CPL. Will make sure I have it on the next trip. :)
Composition-wise, I put most thought on #2 and #5. #1 was made around a restaurant just before we had lunch. This time, instead of just snapping away, I'm looking for the right frame and this is the only image I made at the time. Will contemplate more before I shoot! Thanks again, Joe!

@Jack: First of all, thanks. :)
On #2, there's a storm in a nearby island, you can see the dark clouds at the horizon.
The clouds blocked the sun for a while there, so the reflection is not that strong.
Still, a CPL is in order. ;)

Cheers! :D

Where in the Philippines is this?
Beautiful captures, by the way. I really like #2 and 5.

I think no: 3,4 and 5 ould do with some fill light adjustment to lift some of the detatils out of the shadows, carefull not to take it too far though.

Good series... If you revisit the Philippine Isles (i think that's Boracay), come back with a CPL and GND filter set... A combination of uses will definitely make your scenic landscape captures POP!!! I was in the "motherland" earlier this year... I'm sure glad I brought my CPL and GND filters with me:

Anyhoo... Sorry to hijack your thread, Jonathan... The platform is there to jump up a notch (or two) when you come back with filters... Let the tools do all the work for you!!! Hehehhehehehe... That's their job!!!

This is in Boracay Island; Puka Beach, Bulabog Beach, and the White Beach.
Thanks Lindsay. :)

Yeah maybe for a more serious shoot I could take a speedlite and a couple of reflectors with me. Thanks, Lou! ;)

No worries, not considered a hijack hahaha.
Yeah yeah sure I will be back with a CPL and maybe a set of graduated ND.
Anything else I need to work on? Composition and stuff apart from the use of the correct tool?
Salamat, Kuya!

Cheers! :D

nice photos. I don't get the opportunity to get a lot of the beaches out here. I'm jealous. Hopefully I'll be getting some awesome stuff in Puerto Princesa, Palawan soon though.
