Ah right. I only got mine the other day and didn't realise you could still MF with the AF switched on.
I just assumed it had to be both switched off and the body powered up?

Definitely need to have the camera body power turned on.

First shoot and realized my 77mm ND filter won't work on 85L. Started shoot with sigma 85mm f1.4 but moved to 85L. Here is one of the shots with quick edit in LR.

Great shot! Why didn't the 77mm ND work?

It takes 72mm filters.

What are your thoughts between the Sigma and 85L having used both?
I spent a month or so contemplating the 2 but ended up with the 85L.
Always interested to hear opinions from those who have used both though.

Sigma 85mm f1.4 is quite nice for the price. I have had it for a yr now. Just wanted to see what 85L is all about. So far it seems canon has better colors but difference is quite small. AF wise 85L is slow but very accurate. When sigma comes with their Art version I think they will take more sales from canon.

Use a step down ring for your VariND, I have a Singh Ray and I can us it on all of my lenses with step down rings.
