Yes, i have the same opinion. 50 1.2 is not the level of the 85 1.2 wide open. 50 1.2 is usable @ 2.0 and higher.

It's funny because some of my favorite shots have come from the 50L at 1.2. However, it probably took me 6 months or so to really get comfortable shooting with it and even now I don't trust it for times when I really need a shot. Using the 85 made me realize how fickle my 50 really is – I shoot with it all the time, but I don't trust its AF system so I manually adjust focus (after AF gets me in the general area) on nearly every shot. In my experience, the optics are such that if you miss focus by even a few mm at 1.2, the whole shot is practically useless. The 85L locked on every time and after reviewing the shots, the keeper rate is literally several time higher than the 50L under the same circumstances. I also don't mind the focus-by-wire. If Canon needs to implement that in the 50LII to bring it up to the same quality, I say bring it on.

I was a little disappointed to find the 85L isn't weather sealed though. For some reason, I thought all of the newer L's (besides TS-Es) are sealed.

The mixture of people filling the frame on my five second exposure at f/2... Captured at the Chinese Garden in Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, here in SoCal... Focus point was on the concrete flower accent to the left... 1Ds3 + 85L + Lee Big Stopper... ISO 100, f/2 @ 5 second exposure...

BOOM!!!

Yes sir... It actually is a Lee Bellows Hood with two filter slots on it... The link below is what I got from B&H, Harm...

I mount that onto the Lee 77mm adaptor ring... Hope that helps!!!

Had an 85 on loan from CPS this week... within 10 frames I was sold. I don't know why I held out on this one for so long. As much as it pains me to say it, the 50L can't touch it (let's hope they get it together with the 50LII next year.) At 1.2:

Maybe they should come out with the next version that can be used for sports along with portraits. Ditch focus by wire get a real AF motor in the damn thing and throw IS in we all know it will be $2400 if updated......
