how's this lens with the eos r? Should I go for this or the rf 85? I just love the look of this lens.. not sure if the RF has that same dreamy effect

RF 85 sharper, definitely sharper and bulky and much pricy. RF 85 coming with 2 versions, regular one and DS which have way another bokeh (I dont like it).

Autofocus EF 85 II on EOS R works perfectly with eye-detection, motor of this lens is pretty slow, but for portraits its more than enough. Yes, new lenses provides little different picture, they dont have fringing and pics looks cleaner and different (not much "dreamy")

If you can spent much money, I'd would say, go with RF lens, but EF is so much good on eos R that personally I dont even think upgrade it.

I agree. I am keeping my EF 85. I recently swapped my EF to RF 50mm. The size is about the same as the EF + Adapter. I recently said I was going to be all EF glass with adapters on my R and M6m2. It got frustrating and I decided to go native on both.

The EF or RF versions are going to work perfectly fine with the camera. The preference boils down to adapter + EF lens, or, native RF.

I’ve used both, and ditched the EF. I did not like the control ring where it was with the adapter, nor the need for the adapter, unfortunately.

You can read/see pics from my personal experience, here: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1508339

Either way, the R made the EF come alive again, with no MFA needed to get sharp images. ;)

Prefer the render of this lens and in particular - low element count optical design of lens like the EF 50mm f/1,2L and this EF 85mm f/1,2L

The RF 85mm and the EF 85mm f/1,4L has a kind of rendering which is clinical. :p

Keg no more...

I sold my 85L MKII to a friend, so I am sans KEG.

The 85L is a phenomenal tool when mastered, and it's IQ is still stunning to this day. I used it frequently, and I will miss it. However, being a niche photographer as I am, and not relying on my so-called photography skills to pay the bills, I made some hard choices of late and I've purged most of my photography gear.

Nikon DSLRs and lenses, gone. Canon DSLR bodies and L lenses, gone. Keg, gone. And I'm good with that.

What I do as a photographer can be handled with my Canon M bodies, which by the way look insanely funny with an 85L mounted to it, and I do not need bags full of gear to accomplish the simple; capturing a moment in time.

That being said, my 85L is now in the hands of an eager photographer, where it should be. Still, I do have visitation rights, and I can borrow his Keg when he's not making his own magic.

Because that is what the Keg is all about, making magic!

Long live the KEG!

I actually like putting the Keg on my M6m2 - It makes a great 135mm.

Check out that custom "end-cap" on my former 85L!

I searched my library for M/85L files, and only found 3. All cat photos, so I won't post any...
