Hello I was looking for Studio Light Kit and came across Wescott. I want to keep my budget under $600.00. I was taking a look at this Wescott kit: Wescott Photo Basics 241P Strobelite Three Light Kit (external link). Does anyone have any experience with them? If I wanted to take this to a location can i use this with any power pack?

I also saw this Kit: Elinchrom D-Lite 4 IT (external link) which im sure most of you would recommend. It is a bit more pricier and if the other one isnt worth it i can save up some more. But I rather try to keep it under $600.00 If possible. Thanks.

That's interesting, I just made another post about the westcott kits this morning, don't usually see them come up in conversation here. Here's a link to that post: https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=12509003&postcount=34

Long story short, I got them and they work great. The same setup you linked. Only difference is I bought locally and payed 25 bucks more and some sales tax :) I'm very satisfied, my purpose is to have some nice home lighting for photos of my family, and friends, and something that's at least slightly portable to be able to setup in order to take pictures for friends & family.

Thanks for your input. I dont think I will be using these for outdoors as much, Mainly indoors. Have you tried using yours outdoors yet?

That's not a lot of power per strobe, right? That will limit the power of light you cna produce and therefore, your Aperture/depth of field. Might not be an issue for 1 - 2 people, but it could be an issue on group shots. I would like to hear other's opinions on it, but I would suggest getting a better set with more power up front. Maybe Alien Bees? They have a good name on the boards and are not terribly expensive. Just my $.02..

You may also want to check around for used equipment. I picked up my speedotron blackline set for very cheap. Its an industry workhorse and is a VERY solid performer. Its not quite as mibile as an alien bees set, but its still not that hard to take with you.

The power on the westcotts is not huge, but it's mire than ample I typically have them around 50% or less... The cost difference is not insignificant for the same (albeit more powerful setup) the ABs and accessories were more than three times the cost. They're not for everyone sure, but they are a tremendous value and just like I did with my digital rebel for years I'll be able to focus on my lighting technique and getting the most out of what I've got then when I'm actually being limited by gear not ability I can upgrade :)
