60m(120x30s), f/2.8, 400ISO, 40d, Sigma 10mm Fisheye + 1x30s, f/8.0, ISO400, with light painted tractor. The green streaks are lightning bugs.

Thanks for looking

Thanks all... between this and the ISS/Endeavor shot it was a very long night. Oh well... sleep's overrated anyway. :)

Thanks Mark. I wasn't too excited about the fireflies when editing the singles... but they grew on me pretty quick after the stacking.

Excellent! Love the MF :)

Thanks Helge... me too. My father in law had a couple of places in mind to shoot ... and when I saw the MF I knew it had to be in the shot. They sure don't make them like that anymore.

Great job, and the fireflies are out already, I like their effect.
What time did you shoot this at?

I've found fireflies to be around 2-2.5 hrs after sunset, then they seem to really diminish.

Thanks! First pic was at 9:15pm or about 20 minutes after sunset. I've been doing these off and on for about a year and a half and this was the first one I'd done in the summer... the mosquitos are pretty brutal around here. Also you don't have to pack a cooler in the winter :)

Aaron - at first I was irritated doing star trails in the summer, the fireflies +mosquito's like you mentioned, but then I embraced the fireflies and got this last July, seems here in SE Michigan fireflies aren't around till July.
(and once the continuous frames start shooting I hide in the home to avoid mosquito's till time to turn off and retrieve gear)

Planes are another thing....that plane is headed into DTW via inbound/outbound over Lake Michigan flight path - I've been on those flights many times myself, and it was mid-way thru my images so removing it made a gap in the trails.
If there was a site that showed flight paths inbound/outbound for airports sure would make imaging nice for us astrophotographers to avoid them, but I'm sure Homeland security would not allow that for reasons....

Wonderful shot Mike. Love the composition. Looks like the fireflies in your pic are about how they are in my backyard.

You mean something like this?
http://www.flightstats.com ….do?airport=DTW&x=23&y=11 (external link)

I understand completely on the planes. The local regional airport is 2m NE of my house and none of the flights are listed. Have you tried the clone stamp on the frames with the plane trails? That way it wouldn't cause the gap in the star trails?
