I'm curious who else is going through a periodical cicada outbreak there they live. I went out tonight to shoot a bit (and try out a failure diffuser I made) and was very surprised by the amount of skins I saw on the tree. It was simply phenomenal and made my night! I just wish I could capture the sheer amount of these things in a photo.

I tried, though.

I'd like some critique on my shots, as well as for people in the area to post shots of what it's like where they are.

Nice shots. Been years since I have seen any around here, and nothing yet this year. I did get a couple of June Bugs fly into my open window last night though.

I can't stand June bugs, but Cicadas aren't bad.

It is magical! No one at home really understands why I'm so excited about it, but it's a phenomenal event. I hope tonight there are even more.

Are you actually seeing them climb the tree?

My grandad saw this once, I was pretty jealous. Once every 13 - 17 years I believe!

Yeah, these are 13 year ones.4

Canonloader, I only saw a few scaling the tree, these are mostly the skin left behind.
