I'm assuming it was a force out at second and the runner broke up the double play? The 1D2/300 combo was my field sports workhorse combo for years and it rarely disappoints. Your images testify to that. Very nice shooting angles and good job on mixing it up. Color, exposure, sharpness and action are all there so I really can't offer any crit, nice job man. Scott Evans Photography

Looks more like the ball may have been tossed to her after a short hit to the pitcher and she fumbled it. If I am right, she's obviously safe, it Magic is right, she's definitely out. Sooooo? What happened? It seems like she could have been making a sidearm throw and dropped it.. that makes a bit of sense with the comment 'Magic 24' added but the arm angle looks strange EOS 7D Sigma 70-200 F2.8 (1.4 extender outdoors) are the workhorses. 50D for backup, EF 70-300MM USM f/4-5.6 IS, Freelance photographer for local newspapers and my website viewthroughmylens.net

An open, upward palm with her arm low and at that angle seems REALLY awkward for even an attempted throw if she had any control of the ball in the first place. Its like the crop circles, we may never know? Scott Evans Photography

I've umpired Little League to HS baseball. Just when you think you've seen it all, something new can happen. No idea on earth what was going on on that play. Canon 5D2 > 35L-85L-135L

Congrats to Mark. Five state playoff softball pics (color) in the paper including #s 1, 3, 5, and 6. Eight track images in the same issue. Great job! www.zivnuska.zenfolio.com/blog

Jun 04, 2011 13:00 | #11 Thanks for the comments everyone. The way the play went down the gal to the right in the visor fielded the ball coming off the bat she then attempted to flip it the gal with the Under Armor head band. The player with the head band never had control of the ball. I am glad my assignment was to get a few images for the paper, I wouldn't want any part of being an umpire. Mark Weaver

He could then rule that she lost the ball 'in the exchange' from her glove to her hand to make the next throw EOS 7D Sigma 70-200 F2.8 (1.4 extender outdoors) are the workhorses. 50D for backup, EF 70-300MM USM f/4-5.6 IS, Freelance photographer for local newspapers and my website viewthroughmylens.net

Jun 04, 2011 16:56 | #15 The ball never made it into her glove. No one is perfect and this was just one of those calls. This single call would not have changed the outcome of the game. I know things happen quickly in these types of situations and I am sure the ump did his best in making the call from his vantage point, and that is all we can ask. It's a pretty thankless job as I see it. Mark Weaver
