Every brand will have failures, wether due to age, dropping, design or error in manufacturing. All of these companies are trying to put out a good product for their price point; differing in optical and mechanical featues, while all strive for high reliability. My Tokina 12-24 is the best glass I've ever owned, and has given me the desire to increase my standards. I hear less negative stuff about Tokina when compared to every other brand- including Canon. Nope, don't own a Tokina- yet. It seems to have a hard time auto focusing now. I shoot mostly landscapes so focus is usually at infinity anyways. I'm not getting an error code or anything though. I don't want to hold the zoom ring, while doing this. Yes don't grasp the clutch mechanism when removing from the camera body.

Repair is/was about $140 with shipping. I should be getting it back in a few weeks. I do love the lens though. Checkout my travel page: https://luxeadventuretraveler.com/
