Looking at Remote Triggers - Pocketwizard Plus II's and Interference?

Hey guys, I'm currently looking (going back and forth on...) wireless trigger systems. At the moment I only own a 580EXII, and I'm not planning on adding anything else lighting-wise for a little while. I've been living with a long PC cable, but I hate the feeling of being "tethered" all of the time.

I'm looking to invest in a triggering system, and the Pocketwizard Plus II's seem like just the right thing. No hassle, easily setup, simple layout, and rock steady reliability. Very pricey, but it is what it is :(. I just have two questions.

1.) I've heard of issues with the Flex/Mini system and the 580EXII. Does the 580 cause interference with the standard Pocketwizard channels? Have any of you experienced this?
2.) At the moment I only want to start off with two PW units. If I borrow a few studio lights from a friend, is it possible to wire them to run off of just one PW receiver?

Thanks for any help! :)

I generally mount my Pocket Wizard PII's with a ball bungie on top of my Canon speedlight flash heads with the antenna pointing away from the head so that it doesn't interfere with the light. The only issue I've ever had was with ****ty pc cables. I purchased a screw lock and misfires on the 580EX II aren't an issue anymore.

I've been using my PWII's for over two years now and I've never run into ANY problems with misfiring, not firing, anything. They're pretty much flawless. You can run two flashes off of one PW if you use a stereo headphone splitter.

Thanks to you both! I didn't think of a mini headphone splitter, it's just such a simple solution! Is there any risk of using multiple flashes wired up to a splitter like that?

Maybe too much light and you'll blind your subject, but that's it I think. :D

My plusII's have been solid for about 8 years.
Not sure about the voltage issue. I'm sure they're built pretty tough though. Some of the old lighting systems used to run hundreds of volts in their sync circuts, so they were built to take that kind of abuse. If you are using studio lights, you can usually just trigger one and the rest can be slaves. Unless you have other shooters at the same location using their own flashes.

Optical slaves, you mean?

I think I'm going to jump on a pair of these tonight :).

Many studio lights have built-in optical slaves.
Check before you buy.

Sorry - meant a pair of the pocket wizards, not the optical slaves ;).

I'm using a Speedotron 1205cx pack with mine. Not sure if that reveals anything or not.
