I bought paint shop pro x2 a few years ago to use with my P&S and I liked it pretty good. Now I have a 50D and tried shooting in RAW and it says those are not supported file types. Just wondering what you would recommend? Tried a trial of LR but have not learned much about it yet.

You could convert from RAW with Canon's DPP software, using it to generate JPG or TIF files for further editing in Paint Shop Pro.

Ditto on DPP
DPP(Digital Photo Professional) is one of the applications that is on your EOS Solutions CD along with Zoombrowser and the EOS Utility program which you should install.

DPP by itself is capable of doing the grand majority of any post process image adjustments and corrections. Unless you really need or have a reason to manipulate your images that should be enough. If it's not then you can convert your Raw files to Tiff or Jpeg using DPP.

If your going to get into a lot of photography you might want to consider purchasingPhotoshop Lightroom. (external link) It will do most everything you need plus organize and catalog and then more.

Since you got the free trial of Lightroom, learn as much about it as you can so you can decide whether you want to stick with it. There are plenty of free tutorials online, some great books, and then there are organized for-pay tutorial services such as Lynda.com and KelbyTraining.com that have some great stuff. But, in the meantime, adobe TV has good Lightroom training material, and there are three authors of good Lightroom books -- Martin Evening, Victoria Bampton and Scott Kelby.

At the same time, I go along with the above posters that you install Digital Photo Professional. Whether you end up adopting Lightroom or not, DPP is good to have on hand either for quick conversions or for a reference alongside of Lightroom -- it will give you a "jpeg-like" Raw preview as a "starting point" whereas Lightroom has a different approach that may initially be a bit of a challenge.

Paint Shop Pro X3 will process your 50D raw images. You can get an upgrade for about $40.

I have Photoshop CS4 and PSP X3, and find that I prefer to use PSP - I know it better than CS4.
