You may find that the lights go off, but the exposure is still dark. That's the preflash thing that was mentioned a few posts up. If you can't disable ETTL, and can't set the strobes to ignore the preflash, you'll need to get the cord working.

If they are anything like this Adorama slave flash (they certainly seem very similar), They do NOT get activated by the pre flash.

To the OP: The kit says that it comes with 2 PC cords. Did you try the other one?

When I first got my XT I got a cheap hotshoe adapter, and it performed pretty much as the OP experienced. Weak connections, out-of-tolerance connector sizes, etc. Ended up having to use gaffer's tape to keep it on solid connection.
This is one of those areas where it really doesn't pay to skimp.

I have a Rebel XT and I recently purchased a Vu-Pro v-90 Slave Strobe Kit. I found out that I needed a hot shoe adapter in order to connect these lights to the camera so I did that today. When I hooked it up the lights still don't work. The test button for the lights work but the camera does not set them off. I am very new to all of this so any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

Do you have a link to the hotshoe adapter?

I will take a wild stab, and could easily be incorrect, and guess that you may have a hotshoe adapter designed for a FLASH, and not a hotshoe adapter designed for a CAMERA.

Does the bottom surface of your hotshoe adapter have sync contacts (for CAMERA), or is there a 1/4" - 20 TPI threaded hole (for FLASH)?

Enjoy! Lon

is it possible that the adapter is mounted on the hot shoe backwards? wouldn't that keep it from firing?
