550d and cable release problem

Hi chaps, this is almost certainly down to the fact that I bought a cheap cable release, it works fine until I put the camera into 'bracketed exposure' mode .... then, when I plug in the cable, it fires off three shots and turns off bracketed exposure, in fact it seems to freeze the camera and I have to unplug it to get things going again, my question ... does the canon version of the release allow for bracketed exposure and therefore is this problem solely down to me being a cheapskate ? - regards Roger

I use a non-Canon cable release - no problems here, even for bracket exposures.

Switch the camera off, connect release, switch camera on.

Ahhhh well ... just in case someone else with the problem comes across this thread I will humble myself by admitting to being a total fool ... the cable release was set in it's 'lock' position, in my own defence (if it's at all possible to defend an idiot) the 'lock' is not very obvious.
