Cyberlink PhotoDirector 2011 - Beta + free 1st version!

Has anyone here tried out the beta yet? I just heard about it today, myself.

Check the link above, but its supposed to be similar to Lightroom or Aperture. If you sign up for the beta, and provide feedback before June 20th, you're supposed to get the first version for free ($99 value.)

I'll try it out, why not. I remember using their PowerDVD back in the day.

Actually nevermind, they don't have it for OSX.

I have been trying it out for the last couple of days.

For a first version it is pretty good. Performance is a little slow when using large RAW files and there are a couple of missing features but all and all it is definitely worth checking out.

It is definitely very similar to lightroom.

Downloaded the beta yesterday.

Seems pretty decent so far, coming from a DPP user. There are some issues I still have with it though, which I want to find out whether I can get more out of it (for example file naming limitations).
Unedited files weren't quite exactly the same as DPP, but after some minor changes (options not available in DPP) it turned out quite well.

I'm planning on getting some feedback in before the 20th. Free is always good after all.

Might have more to say on this in time. For now let's just say: A new competitor has joined the ring! Competition can be good (they say) :)

I just had a look at the screenshots. The UI is so similar to Lightroom. Won't Adobe kick up a fuss?

Well I had a more extensive look and sent my findings to Cyberlink.

In short:
- Good for single shots.
- Not good for series. It's too slow.
- Not very stable yet (might be a beta thing).
- Lacks visible watermark function.
- File naming limitations. I don't like to be told what to name my files.

I'm liking the possibilities over DPP here. But as said above, it's not fast enough for series. It's a good start, but seriously needs polishing.
I'll be using it for small batches most likely.

Check my website for some first results (landscapes and miscellaneous, dated 20-06-2011).
