I have a 7d with the 15-85 and the 50 1.8.

I like to shoot landscapes, portraits, and product shots. The 15-85 has been great to me for the first one but the 50 is kind of clunky and cheap feeling, and the autofocus is loud as hell and slow.

I'm looking for probably a prime as my price range is around 400-500 max, and I want a lens that you get a lot of use out of.

Any suggestions?

I suggest considering the Sigma 50/f1.4 and continue to use your 15-85 on the short end for your landscapes. There are other viable alternatives but not in your price budget and the Sigma will definitely fill 2 of your objectives.

Yes, the nifty-50 is cheap and can be clunky. It's especially clunky when it falls apart and parts hit the ground.

The Sigma 50 is a good lens, if you get a good copy. I tried 3 of them and had to send them back. It's a beautiful lens to look at and hold. I've read newer ones in their production cycle might be better than what I experienced.
