I have a 50D that will not shoot RAW files. I can put it on RAW or RAW+JPEG and it always comes out with two jpegs. I have been uploading straight from the camera into iPhoto. Does iPhoto automatically make it the images a jpeg? or is the Camera messing up?

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks!

Try downloading using ZoomBrowser (on your CD that came with the camera). Windows XP has a known bug that interferes with loading raw images when you shoot raw + JPEG. I don't know anything about iphoto.

Better yet, try a card reader.

Looks like iPhoto (external link) is the problem.

When I upload a RAW image into iPhoto it remains a RAW image until I convert it to jpeg. All my photos are uploaded into iPhoto with a card reader in RAW. When I look at my files it still says RAW on them. Even as I'm doing PP on them they still say RAW on the bottom of the page as well as in the little box on the lower left of the page.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

It looks like that link you gave is an older version of iPhoto? Its dated April 30, 2009 and it affects iPhoto 5.x.

I'm using a macbook pro, so the XP theory is out. I guess it might just be my camera?

Have you tried aquiring your RAW images using DPP?

No, its not, use a card reader and do a normal file transfer

iPhoto is such bunk. Hated using my gf's mac to view RAW, but it was doable. Use a PC so you can actually see the files on the card.

what mode are you shooting in. if it's not in the manual modes, but in Auto or one of the automatic modes, then the camera doesn't shoot raw.

My first thought as well.

CrazyStang, are you shooting in the green box mode?

If your looking at the photo's in iPhoto, they will both show as Jpegs. iPhoto converts them on the import and then stores the RAW files in the iPhoto library, found under your pictures folder.

I'm shooting in manual mode. I'm going to just get a card reader, I think. I'm not a fan of Iphoto anyways. I'll just start uploading with the card reader and see if works out. Hopefully this will solve my problem. I'z needs me some raw files!

PS -I'll be back if the card reader doesn't work.
