Can anyone help me with this? When I go to open the utility it opens to the window where it asks you if you want to start downloading images, manually download them, remote view etc. When I click on start downloading images or manually select which one I want to download, it thinks for a second then just closes and says "EOS Utility unexpectedly quit". This has happened before and I had to to update both my cameras firmware and EOS Utility itself. I just got done doing so for both but it still "unexpectedly quits" every time I try to use it. If anyone knows how to fix this please help me! Thank you!!!

Nope. I just downloaded some images on Wednesday and it worked fine. Today I can't get it to work at all.

Have you tried repairing the disk permissions?

Go into your Applications folder, and go to "Utilities" folder.

From there, select "Disk Utility"

In the Disk Utility window, select the drive that eos utility is located on and click "verify disk permissions"

If anything comes up, click "repair disk permissions"

This can solve some crashes on a mac. Give it a try.

I found this but its dated from january 2010

"A pleasant surprise; Canon wrote back today:

"For some reason the current version of EOS Utility is not able to
download Raw+Jpeg. It will lock up and close if there is a Raw+Jpeg on
the card. It is a problem that they are working on but there is not an
update for EOS Utility at this time. The only way to download RAW+Jpeg
images right now is to use a card reader. We are sorry for the
inconvenience.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we
can be of any further assistance with your EOS 7D.

Thank you for choosing Canon. "

Also, some people that have problems simply bought a card reader and be done with it. They seem pretty darn cheap.

On the OS side, do you ever repair permissions? Have you checked that your disk is working properly with disk utility? Something like Disk Warrior is much better for that but it may not be worth investing a 100 bucks if its not the problem but nonetheless its a great utility to have anyway

Mine crashes all the time too.. So i stopped using it..

The 'Default' seems to be that iPhoto opens up when a camera is plugged in and then crashes other applications.. If they are both default, then confusion happens.. Just use one..

Check your iPhoto settings...

I just let iPhoto import them, and then copy the pictures into a folder that i name and then use whatever RAW converter after that..

I hope this helps

What would checking the battery do? And what would I look for in preferences?

Also I am trying to download RAW jpeg's so either they haven't fixed it yet or something else is wrong...

This is set in "Image Capture" on a Mac: in the prefs set "none" as application to open when a camera is connected.
