Our annual company meeting and convention was a couple weeks ago, Monday morning till Friday morning. I took my camera and a little bit of my gear, because I drag it around everywhere I go just to practice practice. I took plenty of snapshots at our vendors' trade show, and a bunch of candids at the awards dinner and awards presentation.

The organizers had a surprise for us after the awards presentation: Taylor Hicks and the Soul Patrol!

I had a tiny bit of advance notice, though I wish they had told me about this before I packed my gear to leave home. I was pressed into service to take snapshots at the VERY BRIEF meet-n-greet after the show... Taylor had a plane to catch, so I did some rapid-fire shooting of coworkers standing in front of a mockup storefront banner. Forty portraits in seven minutes - we were blowin' through em fast. He was gracious enough to stick around an extra thirty seconds to take one with me, too. I wish I had brought better lighting equipment for the portraits; all I had was my Speedlite sitting on a table, bouncing off a ceiling with a paper napkin taped up for a bounce card.

The show was great. I'm a big fan of southern rock and blues and soul. The crew gave me almost full-run of the stage area so I was able to get really close.

These are all with my 60D, 50mm f/1.4 wide open, ISO800-3200, 1/80-1/125. I adjusted settings on-the-fly as lighting changed.

7. At the time, this was my favorite of the night, but after editing and sorting, some of the others really make me happy too.

Great shots. Love #2 and #7, and thanks for posting the lens/camera/etc used.
