Gotta think positive :D

On a side note, I saw a HUGE lens yesterday, must have been the 600L or something. The newpaper photographer had it at the high school graduation (which I went to for my brother). There were also a ton of 70-200's! Mostly Canons :D I even saw another 70-200 f2.8 IS II! I also saw a 1D... not sure what it was tho.

Parents these days at a graduation have more cameras and lenses than the pap do! Although I was the only one with a tripod :D. Next time I am bringing 4 cameras so no one outshines me.. at least not the parents :p

never mind tony found my answer. Flash was fired

Flash fired, on bracket, at 1/4 power, manual setting...this backdrop is most difficult of all LV red carpets, very shiny and the green snd black color combination reflects bad WB , so we carefully under expose, F 10 .

Cheers,
Tony

I don't think he used it for a single shot. In the past graduations were done at the local University campus and people tended to be further away. This was the first year it was done at the high school because they constructed a new stadium and we were able to get real close, I didn't need the TC I brought, just the 70-200 was fine :D

I am not that experienced with lighting Tony, explain how underexposing helps keep away weird environmental colors.

primarily the underexposure is to remove glare, reflections from the backdrop AND lighter part of the subject...Look at my very first red caret here and compare to shot last night:

Jake... if I had a kid graduate from high school (lets assume 18) that would mean that kid was born when I was 6-7 which means the kid was conceived when I was 6... thats kinda scary man...

A little past 24.5... yes... I realize I have a ton of gear, married, have a house, and drink joint juice... I can easily be confused for a old fart.
