No, I didn't win the lottery, no I did not get a job offer for $150/hr, and no, nobody gifted me with a new car to replace the one my daughter wrecked... But, yesterday I was talking with a friend and the subject of my wrecked bike came up. He mentioned that he had some old stuff in his garage and that he used to work on bikes, and then said that in the mean time I could check with a shop not far away and see what they could do. Well, all this time my ex, who is the one who wrecked the bike in the first place, just "hasn't had the time" to do the right thing, pick it up, and get it fixed. But, amazingly, today she came by to do this. So, we loaded the bike in the trunk and went to the shop. Now these people were the coolest ever! They are a husband and wife and just really tuned in to what I needed and were very sympathetic. Even though the messed up wheel was the rear wheel with all the gears and whatnot (it's a 15 gear bike with three forward and five in back) the guy said he'd replace the thing and the tire for $30, including his time, and I was like "Wow!". So he went to work, I took off to run a couple chores, came back in an hour or so and he said that he was trying to tune things up so the gears and the brakes and whatnot 'cause they needed it, and he said he would stick to the $30 figure, and I'm like "Wow!" again! He even pried off a combination lock that I no longer had the combo to, which took a bit! And, lemme tell ya, after the bike ride I took with my daughter's one speed, this bike handles so nicely! I remembered it did quite well for this type of terrain, but boy, it is a pleasure! And, I even made a stop to pick up a new lock (they didn't have one on hand) and even a bike helmet -- hey, whatever! So, even though I didn't win the lottery I still came out of the day pretty happy! Awesome story Tony!
