Hello everyone,

I am looking for a flash which can do high speed sync. I came across a used Sigma 500 dg super which states that it has high speed sync. I am planning to buy this, but want to know if it will be compatible with my T1i/500d. Also I am considering to upgrade to 60D in the future... will this flash still be compatible?

I doubt the 500 series will work with your camera. Canon changed their TTL algorithm with the introduction of the 5Dii (which preceded the 500d) and that broke the compatibility. If the flash is marked "EO-ETTL II" on the back, then Sigma can update the firmware to make it compatible. If it's not a series II flash, then no update can be done and the flash will not work.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

The flash is a EO-ETTL II. I called up sigma today and they said it is probably compatible, but if it is not they can upgrade the firmware. But the only catch is that they need a purchase receipt for the upgrade. If I don't have that, they are going to charge me around £40 to upgrade. If I have the receipt, they charge £5.
