S95 will it convert RAW to JPEG?

I shoot RAW most of the time, and notice that images on playback are fuzzy. The same image shot as a JPEG is sharp. I can sharpen the RAW images in Adobe CR.

I assume the playback doesn't convert the RAW image to a JPEG as does a DSLR.

Is there a setting to make this conversion on playback, or do I have to shoot on the RAW/JPEG setting to see a sharp image on playback?

The S95, like your DSLR, extracts the embedded JPEG from the RAW to display. It also, like the DSLR, uses the default camera settings for creating that embedded thumbnail. If you're shooting straight RAW, it uses the vanilla settings which are pretty low-impact. So, yeah, I think you need to either shoot R/J or rely on post. Personally, I don't place much reliance on the replay on my camera's LCD regardless of the camera. The histogram, yes. The image - only for composition questions.

Raw is so much better.

You can adjust it how you like. Most of the time these days I set it for totally neutral (no sharpening or noise reduction).

Then I can fine tune it in post.

Of course, half the time the camera, set on automatic, can outperform me, but there are lot of situations in which the camera doesn't know squat.

It's a good idea to use the camera histogram for exposure reference ...live histogram is better.. like whats on the S95...
