After a respite of temperatures in the low-eighties and high-seventies
Fahrenheit for a couple of days, after suffering temperatures in the
high-eighties and low-nineties Fahrenheit with humidity levels to nearly match,
we are again suffering unusually high temperatures with high humidity. UGH!

Temperatures today reached around 92 degrees Fahrenheit, with nearly matching
percentage of humidity. To be outdoors was to absolutely suffer, and there was nothing
short of an air-conditioned interior to ease the suffering.

Unfortunately, this sort of condition is common to Michigan weather, but it has been
a long time since we've experienced such high temperatures along with the higher
humidity levels reported at so early a stage of the spring or summer season.

The conditions are expected to dwindle over the next couple of days, spike again
to very high temperatures and humidity for another few days, then slowly abate
as the weather patterns change. The week after next is expected to hold
temperatures of around 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, in varying measures, but
humidity percentages are expected to hold steady in the high-percentile range
they've held for the past few days.

Those of you who think 70 or 80 degrees Fahrenheit is okay, you'll need to
evaluate whether the same temperature range is acceptable to you at the same
humidity level, and make your choices accordingly.
An 80-to 95-percentile humidity mark for my reasons is simply not acceptible,
due to the absolute discomfort it provides.
Air-conditioning will be a necessity.

It was snowing here this morning when I was up at 5:00 am :-( It should be 74-78F
in the afternoon, but today we hit a high of 45F :-(

Looks like we are all getting abnormal weather, but I will take the cooler weather over the
extreme heat any day.

Nobody in the U.S. should complain about the heat. Its still hotter in Iraq at night than it is here during the hottest part of the day. Drink water and drive on.

A NASA satellite recorded surface temperatures in the Lut desert of Iran as high as 71 °C (159 °F), the hottest temperature ever recorded on the surface of the Earth.

Yeah really, 91F is only slightly warm. Granted when you add in a bunch of humidity it's pretty awful, but I'll take it over the -20F with 40mph winds any day.

A short time later, we experienced temperatures of around 97 degrees Fahrenheit.
Humidity levels nearly matched, and temperatures didn't fall below around 87 degrees
during the nights. Just to step outdoors was like meeting a physical presence; the heat and
humidity was absolutely oppressive, making it difficult to breathe normally.

These conditions often take their toll on infants and the elderly, with rather high
death rates reported among those who are not fortunate enough to live in an air-conditioned environment.

A difficult situation to be sure, but mediated by the arid climate.
If the humidity levels in such places were to be higher, people's bodies simply
could not cool off from the natural evaporative process of sweat, and many people
would surely have perished.

I'm not trying to negate higher temperatures elsewhere by any means,
but draw notice to the fact that the upper United States can and does
experience dangerous hot-weather conditions. Those who do not take
precautions during such conditions are at risk of fast dehydration,
medical emergencies due to dehydration, and even death, if appropriate
measures are not taken to protect oneself. The same can be said
for similar locations around the world, as well, such as locations in Canada.

Many people consider Michigan and most of Canada to be a winter wasteland,
while the truth is that we experience brutally hot episodes of weather,
sometimes early in the spring and summer seasons, while late summer
is often intolerably warm and humid. The combination of high temperatures
and high humidity are enough to drive people into shopping centers and
other publically-accessable places which are air-conditioned, just so they
can experience some relief from the oppressive weather, while vehicles
with air-conditioning are highly prized.

One time, I was on an early morning flight back home to Phoenix (lived there for all 20 years of my life). Middle of August or so. Pilot comes on the PA and says "Welcome to Phoenix! It's 6:57 AM and 96 degrees!" Everyone groaned and I chuckled :D

In mid-July I used to go running and play basketball at 11PM because that's the time when it finally drops below 100 and it's bearable outside. Relatively bearable...
