I got to spend this afternoon playing with a 50mp Hasselblad camera. Both of these are the same image. No editing has been performed, this is just to show what a 50mp camera is capable of.

This first image is a 100% crop (i.e. no pixel resizing) pulled out of the image below it.

It might be over sharpened or really just not processed correctly. It was my first time (and probably will be my last time) using the camera. I used Lightroom rather than the program that Hasselblad supplies - mainly because I know the LR interface and I didn't know how to use their program (called PHOCUS).

Remember too ... you are looking at a 100% crop. That's a 700 pixel square pulled out of a FIFTY MEGAPIXEL image.

For what it's worth ... I've been shooting the 5D Mark II since it was released nearly 3 years ago now (have two of them and a bunch of L glass) and also have a 1D Mark III. None of my cameras would have shown that much detail from that far away.

I'd take it.

Raw file sizes ranged from 59Mb to 76Mb with the majority if them around 65Mb.

Hehe, no doubt. I was told that the one I was using cost $28,000 and that the lens I was using cost $4000. So I was carrying around $32,000 in my hands for a few hours yesterday.

That is pretty flippin sweet. That camera is worth the MSRP of my car at the time of purchase. Why do we have such an expensive hobby?

I don't think many people who own a Hasselblad are doing it for a hobby.

Thank you, David.

I think the JPG artifacts make it hard to appreciate the quality of the image. Might you be willing and able to throw up a TIF of the original and/or the crop on an external server?

Well although it is very nice - it is just a fraction of what Hasselblad can produce. I was just looking at their newest camera - 200 MP !! $45,000 BUCKS!
