I have a 40d and I'm looking for a zoom lens, something that is relatively cheap but yet still decent , I know I know its hard to put cheap and decent in the same sentence, but I'm hoping there is like a nifty fifty of zoom lens out there.

Ideas, suggestions ?

You have two zooms in your sig. What range are you trying to hit? Look at the 55-250.

Cheap is relative? How much are you talking about spending? You'll get very good answers if you provide that data point.

Looking for either a 200mm or a 500mm, $200 would be nice

Wait, you want something that can do 200mm for $200???? For $200, I'd recommend the 55-250.

Might be willing to drop $500 , but of course $200 would be nicer. I'm not looking for the best, I'm just wondering if there is some type of cheap 200mm lens that I can pick up and have a little fun with.

The canon 55-250 is the cheap telephoto zoom lens of choice.

It can currently be had new for $199

Okay, you are looking for a telephoto zoom then, since you already have a couple standard zooms that sort of overlap each other and your 50/1.8 prime.

Another vote for the 55-250 IS.

That's easy to suggest because you just aren't going to find many options at this price.

And for that amount you aren't going to find anything reaching 500mm (need at least 5X as much $, approx: Sigma 150-500mm OS).

Get the 55-250.

If you're willing to drop the cash for it, the 70-200 f/4 is also a good lens for ~$500ish used.

Exactly the answers I was looking for, sorry for not stating a telephoto lens either.

For your price range there is only one lens to consider; Canon 55-250 is. Get it now while the Canon special is going on or you will be paying another $100 if you wait!

Yep... 55-250 like everyone says. For the price, it's a great performer.

If you can do without the IS, the Sigma 70-300 Macro is worth considering. It's ~$210 and it gives you a bit more focal length. Not 500, but thats just not gonna happend at that budget.
