I've had a Lowepro SlingShot 202 AW for about a year now. I've taken it to Hawaii, skiing/hiking in NH White Mountains often, southeast Asia, etc.
It's been great, but sometimes inconvenient due to the 1 sling strap.
When going to Bali for a weekend, I only took this bag. I fit my camera body, 2 lenses, and some clothing for the trip. I'm also able to squeeze my netbook in the main compartment.
I love the capacity/size, but when loaded up with weight, the sling strap seems stressed and uncomfortable. I feel I should go to a backpack/2 strap design, but I do love the quick access of the SlingShot.

Do you use a sling bag or backpack (2 straps) for hiking?
Please list your bag and general configuration/capacity.

After looking into the Lowepro Flipside 200-300s, I may be interested in a 300, BUT I need a rain cover like my 202 AW. From what I see, I'd have to jump to the 400 AW for that., though the 300 looks like the size I'm looking for.

Is there something similar to the Lowepro Flipside 300, but with a rain cover?

I use a LowePro Primus AW, it has a rain cover and a side pouch which you can take out the camera while on the move with some practice. I used it with an XTI and an XSi and currently use it with a 60D though I'm not comfortable putting the 60D back inside my pack without removing it as it's a little too snug a fit. Link to the pack (external link) (watch the video for tips on the access part).

I fit a camera with a lens attached, and I can keep another lens in the camera compartment as well, and depending on which lenses they are, I can fit one more though it has to be smaller (for example my nifty 50 will fit). I use the main compartment for non camera gear, though I have also fit camera gear in there but first wrapped it with a Domke wrap.

Note: I just watched the video on the page I linked to, it's a different one than I remember... especially the part about a computer case! Apparently that version is the CompuPrimus. They also seem to carry a Primus Minimus (skinnier pack) too now.

I moved from a flipside 300 to a primus minimus AW, the extra padded straps and thick waist belt are much better support for hiking. There is also more external pockets and compartments, plus the all weather cover and compression/ adjustment straps. I use a padded insert in the top compartment if I need extra capacity.

Zoo.
The Flipside 400AW is a great bag with lots of support.
However it does lack the convenience of the Sling.
You may also want to look at the new Tamrac Evolution series.
Very comfortable also as I have both the Flipside 400 AW and the Evolution 8.
