Nothing wrong with selling the 24-70L and getting the 24L. If you end up missing the 24-70L, just buy it again down the road. You may not miss it at all....

I just sold my 24-70L to get the 35L....similiar reasons as you, I love primes! My biggest problem was not letting the 24-70 go, it was deciding between the 24L and 35L.

Looks like I'm either going to have to save for a little while to add the 24L to my current gear list or sell my 24-70L and put the money towards the 24L.

Thanks for all the input.

Off-topic a bit. You have a nice set of L zooms and I think adding the 24L gives you a nice set of L primes that covers you for a lot of situations and FL range (zooms and primes). Nice!

Just don't go embezzling diaper money into the 24L funds. Heh. ;)

Kids are moving fast when they grow up, the versatility of zoom is important to capture every moment without busy changing lenses. If I were you, I would keep the 24-70L and add 24L II instead if you want it.

Hey, you got a zoom trinity already, so it is time for the prime trinity. ;)

I'll add this to the mix:

If you're not in a crunch to change lenses, I'd go with the primes. In an event atmosphere, you may find yourself wanting that 24-70 over those primes. FOR ME, I love the primes that Canon offers. But the versatility of the zooms has proven to be much more useful.

In an all prime lens line-up, I'd rather have at least two (2) bodies to take advantage of certain situations. Honestly, I'd like to have two bodies with the 24-70 & 70-200 Mk II.

I now own both and have considered selling 1 or the other and cant bring myself to do so. Both are very impressive lenses, I only had the 24L a few months but its very sharp even wide open, great color and contrast. The 24-70 is just very versatile.

If money would not matter at all then 24+50+85. Unfortunately I only have 24-70L as the prime setup would be too expensive. But the 24-70L is more than capable of creating great photos! :)

I've had or have all of those lenses. While the 24-70L is a nice lens, compared to the 3 primes, it doesn't even come close re IQ in my opinion.

So if money were no problem, I'd go the 24LII, 50L, 85LII set up

I sold my 24-70l for a 35l

And eventually bought a tamron 28-75 to fill the missing zoom for the times I might need a zoom. Which has been really rare

Give up. Now that you know, you will own them all. That really should be the opening line of The Lord of the L Rings.
