The Port Norris/Shellpile/Bivalve CDP takes the cake. Hard by the Maurice River in Cumberland County, the area was once the center of the East Coast's, if not the country's, Oyster & Crabbing Industry. A blight in the 1950s killed 90% of the oysters and the residents left soon after. Bivalve once held the dubious distinction of being the only incorporated settlement in New Jersey with ZERO full-time residents. The monstrous pile of oyster shells in, obviously, Shellpile, is an olfactory torture that is not recommended for the faint of heart. Over 150 years of calcium harvest covers more than three acres, and is over 60 feet high.

Interesting. I lived in NJ for 12 years without ever hearing of this place.
