I took my camera to the beach a couple of days ago. There was a strong wind blowing off the ocean but I didn't actually feel any spray. Should I be giving my camera a wipe over with a clean damp cloth just to be safe?

Use a soft brush, or a blower in case any sand has got into any nooks and crannies first and then use a damp cloth.

Use a blower, or brush the lens element too don't use the cloth first, again in case of sand, which will scratch the lens.

EDIT: forgot to mention, do this before changing lenses.

there's no visible sand on it and I didn't feel any blowing around but I suppose if I looked with a magnifying glass I'd be horrified at what was on it. I was more wondering about salt that I cannot see but that might (or might not ) be there. I'll give it all a careful clean.
Thanks for your advice.

Yeah, I think a good wipe down couldn't hurt.

Salt is also an abrasive, I'd still use a blower, or brush, especially on the lens element.

Funny thing is...
You probably have spent less time giving your camera a precautionary wipe with a damp cloth (which wouldn't hurt it) in the first place than the time taken to post in this thread.

Blow the sand off first! Otherwise you could scratch the LCDs or finish (sand is quartz, which is harder than plastic).
