Hi,I've been thrown into the deep end of Wedding photography,1 of my friends has asked me to do his wedding photos with only a week left before his big day:confused:I have been reading up on what lenses i should have.I already have a canon EFS 18mm-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens and a Sigma 70mm-300mm 1:4-5.6 lens.Finances and time are very short to get the lenes i might require. Will these lenses be ok or am i setting myself up for a big fall and photos that will not be any good?Advice would be gratefully recieved:mad:

Given your time restrictions and $'s, use what you've got. You'll do fine.

As long as there is enough light you'll be "ok" with these lenses. But adding at least a 50 1.4 will go a long way towards getting some good shots.

The bigger question is what are you doing for lights?

Hopefully, you are outdoors. If not, you will need some other lenses. You can ask the B&G to pitch in for at least a rental of a 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8.

If money allows, rent a 24-70L and a 70-200L, and a 580EXII. Rent them a couple days before and work with them.

In most all cases if a friend asks you to shoot their wedding then they already know how good of a photographer you are. They've seen your photos and liked them enough to ask you to shoot their wedding. I am also going to suggest renting the lenses and flash unit that deanmass has suggested. Definitely, get them a couple days in advance so you can play around with them a bit. Even if you're outside and don't need anything wider than f/4 these lenses will be sharper than the kit lenses you have already. I would suggest if you plan on investing in a lens I would recommend a 24-105 L because I use that as my carry around lens when I'm out side. It's perfect.

Good luck with the wedding. Please post results! We'd love to see them.

The lenses you have would work but itd be nice to get some faster lenses so you dont have to rely on flash. Since $$ is an issue I'd consider buying the 50mm 1.8 and renting a 24-105L. Renting a 580EXII would definitely open up the types of shots you could get (using 430 as slave). Getting used to triggers and off camera flash takes time however : )

Good luck!
