Hey guys, I have a few questions. I'm actually a student (not a photography major). I've been doing photography this past two years because I really enjoy it.. and a lot of people have been asking me for photo shoots. I've done a lot for my family and friends for FREE. And now I am sort of looking to promote myself to make some extra cash... I do not really have higher end lens, I currently own : canon 50mm 1.8, sigma 30mm 1.4, canon 100mm 2.0, and sigma 10-20. As you can see I am obsessed with prime lens :).

Anyway, As a new photographer a lot of people have been asking me for a "fair" price on pricing their photo shoots such as couples anniversary or what not. I do not want to sound greedy or throw off a price. So, I am asking you guys where should I start? How should I start charging? Below, is a link to my photography work, let me know what you guys think and how I should start pricing... Thank you so much for your time!

What camera bodies do you have? From what you have listed there, your gear alone says you should probably not be shooting weddings yet.

Check out my blog post on a checklist on what I think people should seriously look at before attempting a wedding: http://redtiephotography.blogspot.com …dy-to-become-wedding.html (external link)

That being said, prices for people starting new range from free to maybe $1000. See what people will pay you, and try not to screw up.

If you are doing this for fun then for a portrait session I'd say $150 would be reasonable but it really depends on where you live. In California you can get $200 in Alabama maybe only $75. Don't forget to pay your taxes on these shoots! Uncle Sam usually wants about 30% if you are in the US.

As of right now it is pretty much just a hobby to me, if I can afford better lenses and bodies, I would like to increase the price amount as I get better too.

Moreover, do you know if photographers price on the fact of the equipment they own or how "talent" their work can come out to be?

Thanks for your help.
