While i really like the Retro 10, i'm trying to justify the price difference over the Tenba Mini Messenger ($87).

Right now I only need to store a body with 2 lenses (18-55 & 50mm), along with an iPad and a few misc items.

Anyone seen both?

Seeing how you're trying to justify price, why not make your own stealth bag for a much cheaper option. If you like the pinstone finish of the Retro 10, you can buy the Rothco stonewashed messenger bag (external link) instead of the Rapid Dominance/Gravity Trading version. However, it does not have the zippered main compartment, zippered pockets under the flap, nor the rear backside pocket:

I have both; choose to use the Tenba as a daily carry bag with a P&S in tow. It's a great briefcase. I don't like using it to carry my dslr. Others do, so YMMV.
My Tenba is the Large....
The Tenba doesn't have a rain cover.
The R10 does, though it doesn't cover the entire bag back.

Out of the two, which do you prefer overall?

The TT Retro 10 is a much better camera bag. It's a shooters' bag--get the shot quickly; protects gear well too.
The Messenger is a great messenger bag that also carries a camera. The way I work, that's somewhat compromised... however, I've seen others review that they really like it.
YMMV...hope this helps

edit--one of my needs is for rain protection. The Retro10 has a raincover. I'm pretty sure it will do the job. The Tenba? I would have to pack a garbage bag and wrap it to be sure...

I don't mind going from parking the car, to the office in the rain with the Tenba. I would stay out with the Retro10....but that's just me.
