Extreme hi-perf power boats - running for charity

As a long time professional race boat driver, one of the things that gets me excited, is
getting together with others, and running our personal boats for a good cause.

I am a charter member of FMO (Ft Myers Offshore), whose mission statement is:
"Ft.Myers Offshore, Inc. is a not-for profit corporation consisting of a group of offshore
boating enthusiasts in Southwest Florida, dedicated to raising funds and awarding a
number of academic scholarships each year to help worthy individuals graduating from
high school, continue their education at institutions of higher learning including college
and university as approved by the Board of Directors."

When I participate in these events, I am almost always in one of my boats. Both
FMO and SBI(see race photo below) do have professional event photographers.
Sometimes they are in a boat a anchor, sometimes in a helocopter and sometimes
on the beach. They are true 'pros' and do an excellent job.


Because of the speed of my boats, liability issues, and insurance regulations, only I drive
my boat, and obviously I can not use my camera, while driving.

My co-pilot, who is my son-in-law, just got a 7D, and he has tried to take running
pictures, in the past, with his previous Canon. Some days due to sea conditions
it is impossible to shoot anything from inside my moving boat, some days he gets
good stuff. I have thousands and thousands of pictures, I am working my way
through them, and hope to post some here on POTN, in the future.

Very nice. I attend the Poker Run in Alexandria Bay every year. Have you ever seen "Extreme Xhibit" (50ft. NorTech) or "My Way" (46ft[?] NorTech w/ 2 Turbines)?

Just a question, though, why outboards?

Yes, I know all those guys.

The reason for the O/B on my personal boat (the 308 Skater tunnel hull) was three things,
I got tired of all the maintenance on the big cid super charger motors in my last 4 personal boats
I like the dependability and fuel ecomomy of the O/B for personal use
Higher fun factor

I know that sounds crazy, given the price of these boats, but there is a huge cost difference
in burning 50 gallons an hour at 100mph and burning 200 gallons an hour at 100mph.

Wow.

Both boats in post #7, are the real deal.

The boat on the left is a 39 Sutphen, hand built, one at a time, right here in SW FL,
by a family of the same name. This hull with four O/B, is quite rare, and this one is the
only one I have ever seen in over 25 years of racing and hi-perf boating. I have
come up against these hulls with other power options, many times in professional
racing, and they generally run very strong, and at the front of the pack.

The boat on the right is a 43 NorTech Center Console, factory built, also right here in
SW FL. We are seeing more and more 3 and 4 engine O/B Center Consoles replacing
tradition big CID super charger boats.

I know "My Way" very well, it is Bill Tomlinson and family that own it. I used to live down the street from them in Manotick, On.

"My Way #1" and "My Way #2" are Skaters.
"My Way #3" is a 51 OuterLimits Cat, red & white/silver paint
