Wasn't sure where to post that one.

Its actually for a photo shoot -- the blender will be by a pool, but the power is off to the outlets nearby.

So -- would it work?

$257 for a battery-powered Margaritaville device...

May have to order one myself. Thanks for making me look it up. :)

I image it will but so will just about any low cost inverter that you can clip to a 12 volt battery.

Of course, if the client is going to pay for it, and you get to keep it, then the VML is the recommended solution.

That product is essentially an ice crusher and blender. A food processor that I have is 625 watts, while a blender is 375 watts. Assuming 12V supply thru an invertor, that means the battery has to provide 31-52Amps constantly while the Margaritaville is running. That would consume a battery pretty fast!

The Alien Bee Vagabond provides 130 Watt-hours of energy, which converts to 12-24 minutes (assuming 375-625 watts needed) before battery is flat and needs 3 hour recharge!

I figure that's about eight 12-oz Margaritas (2 batches of 4).

If the client is paying, go for it. You never know when you need a refreshment for the models on a Death Valley shoot in the hot sun!

I have a Daquiri Whacker for these types of situations, highly recommended: http://www.gasblender.com/ (external link)

I don't know, but I can tell you it won't power my 50" plasma. I tried it during a power outage. It kinda turned on for a second, then turned off.

Right on! I am going to give it a shot. I was just afraid it might damage one or the other.

Not sure which specific model you're looking at, but Amazon lists this one:

http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1307474249&sr=1-2 (external link)

as a 550 watt device. The VML is a relatively small inverter (listed as only 120W by Rob Galbraith, though I thought I had seen 150W somewhere). Hard to say what the 550 watts is... peak draw, continuous, etc, but if the VML is only 120W continuous, odds are it isn't going to power a Margarita Maker.

I plugged in my vita-mix blender from costco and it would only operate at low speed as blenders draw a LARGE amount of constant power. So in a nutshell it would be useless for actual blending.
