Look at other photographers blogs/websites for pics and also on here.
Get to know the client first and get a general vibe. Last thing you want is to ask them to do something and they totally hate it.

Eg) Some clients dont like jumping shots.. Or kissing shots etc etc.

Do look at other sites or even the photos sharing section here for ideas. The quick answer is I don't pose people as much as I put them in situations and let them be themselves. They may just get some quick little direction from me like eyes to the camera, smile, don't smile, etc.

yes, what they both said. I think it is important to give SOME direction as e-sessions should be different than portrait sessions of a couple. To my mind anyway. In a portrait session, you might typically be just trying to get beautiful pictures of two people. In an e-session, my goal is to do that, but to capture that love connection between them at the same time. So the photos are more likely to be unposed (but not necessarily undirected), with them looking at each other, cuddling, kissing, connecting with each other instead of the camera and me. I see lots of e-sessions that are nice pics of a couple, but they are looking at the camera in each shot, not really showing the essence of their relationship with each other. That to me is the difference you should strive for in an e-session as opposed to a straight portrait session.

as mentioned already, get them generally posed where you want them and then let them interact.

after a few minutes they typically get alot more comfortable and you can get some really great shots of them interacting.

I've only had one couple where the gal was SUPER self conscious and just couldn't hardly bring herslef to kiss in front of the camera so I didn't push it.

Just let them be thereselves and the more natural looks and interaction between them will just happen!
